Executive Director + President/CEO
Activation Capital is the anchor for the knowledge-based innovation and entrepreneurial community providing the leadership and vision for the Richmond regional innovation ecosystem. Over the course of the last five years, the organization has transformed from a place-based organization to an organization that targets the people, programs, space and funding required for a successful ecosystem. We are now in a position to take Activation Capital, as an organization, to the next level to create a stronger innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem that can serve as a model for the Commonwealth.
The Executive Director + President/CEO will regularly interface with elected and administrative officials at the local, state and federal levels; academic officials, corporate leaders, and other stakeholders of the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem. The position manages all assets of Activation Capital and is responsible for the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan.
Responsible to and receives direction from the Activation Capital Board (officially the Virginia Biotechnology Partnership Authority, a political subdivision of the Commonwealth of Virginia with a 9-member board appointed by the Governor). Works with the Activation Council, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, with a board that includes representation of the major stakeholders of the innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystem.

Actively Engaged with Ecosystems Across Virginia
Represents AC with major stakeholders/affiliated organizations as determined by the AC Board (e.g. Lighthouse Labs Board (ex officio), Dominion Energy Innovation Center Board (ex officio)

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor’s in business, economics, entrepreneurship, or management or related field. An advanced degree is preferred.
A minimum of 10 years’ experience functioning in a leadership role with economic development or entrepreneurship and innovation.
Possess a working knowledge of and expertise in supporting the creation, development and expansion of successful technology companies.
Strong understanding of the business start-up environment – including experience with or exposure to fund management and venture investing.
Demonstrated initiative, creativity, strategic capabilities, and ability to work effectively in complex, rapidly changing environments.
Proven ability to navigate complex organizational structures with a preference of experience in public-private partnerships at various levels of government.
Experience in delivering complex messages to various internal and external customers with a track record of effective and influential presentations.
Strong project/process management skills and ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks
Proven leader who can develop and lead a high performing team.
Exceptional communication skills. Must be able to communicate effectively with multiple and varied audiences.
