Park names two new vice presidents
Richmond, Va. – The Virginia BioTechnology Research Park recently announced the promotion of David R. Lohr to Vice President of Business Development and William R. Dennis to Vice President of Administration.
Named the new vice president of business development, David R. Lohr is the former director of business development for the Park and serves as the executive director of the Park’s incubator management program, the Virginia Biosciences Development Center. In these roles, Lohr has assisted dozens of start-up and early-stage companies located at the Park’s incubator facility with business planning and strategies, including accessing capital, marketing and general business consultation.
Prior to joining the VBRP in 2000, Lohr was the vice president, client assistance for the BIO/START Biomedical Business Incubator in Cincinnati where he served in a similar capacity providing business assistance, pro bono professional services and entrepreneurial education to more than a dozen start-up companies. His experience also includes a 19-year career with DuPont, where he served in a variety of roles that ranged from engineering to research management and business assignments. From DuPont, Lohr accepted a position as president and CEO for a Cincinnati-based start-up company, Medisorb Technologies International, which specialized in the development of human and veterinary drug-delivery systems based on biodegradable polymer technologies. Under his leadership, Medisorb grew from a start-up to having $9 million in annual collaborative research revenues and 150 employees.
Lohr holds a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Virginia Tech and an M.B.A. from the William’s College of Business at Xavier University in Cincinnati.
The Park’s new vice president of administration will be William R. Dennis. Dennis joined the VBRP in January 1999 as the director of operations and leasing, where he was responsible for all aspects of tenant relations and leasing in the Park, including space allocation and suite build-out, lease specifications, and compliance with government regulations. Dennis is also responsible for the physical operations of the nine BioTech Park buildings, including maintaining contractual relations with various vendors supplying the Park and supervising the building engineering and maintenance team.
Dennis is a graduate of James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. Upon graduation, he worked in radio news for 10 years before moving into Virginia state government where he was a management analyst for the Transportation Safety Department at the Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles, before being promoted to chief analyst to the deputy commissioner at DMV. Following work at DMV, he joined the staff at the Virginia Retirement System, where he was manager of communications, policy and planning.
About the Park:
The Park is currently home to a unique mix of more than 55 technology companies, research institutes affiliated with the VCU Medical Center and major state and national medical laboratories. After completion of the new $350 million Philip Morris USA Center for Research and Technology, the Park will encompass 1.2 million square feet of space in nine buildings and employ more than 2,000 industry professionals.
