VBDC announces new LeClair Ryan Educational Series

Richmond, Va. – The Virginia Biosciences Development Center recently announced the rollout of a new educational series, “Biotechnology and the Law,” which will start in October 2007 for area bioscience entrepreneurs.

“There are so many areas of law that start-up bioscience companies have to become familiar with,” commented David R. Lohr, executive director of the VBDC. “This course was developed to arm bioscience executives with the knowledge they need to succeed.”

The series will have six consecutive Wednesday afternoon sessions starting on Oct. 17. Over lunch, participants will learn more about areas such as licensing, intellectual property protection, patent prosecution and litigation, raising capital, employment and immigration issues, strategic alliances, and FDA approval. Each session will be held at the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park from noon to1:30 p.m., followed by an optional minute 30 minute question-and-answer period.

The series is open to BioTech Park tenants as well as the public. The early bird rate of $150 includes the course textbook and lunch at each session. For more information or to register for this series, interested parties can e-mail Deneen Terrell at vbrp@vabiotech.com.

“The legal aspects of starting and growing a bioscience company are critical to its success,” stated Hugh Wellons, attorney at LeClair Ryan. “We are excited to help our local bioscience entrepreneurs, in collaboration with the VBDC, by organizing this educational course.”
