Park Tenant, Intelliject, LLC, wins top Richmond award

Richmond, Va. –The Greater Richmond Technology Council recently recognized Intelliject, LLC, as one of the best and brightest companies of the greater Richmond area during their annual awards gala.

During the event, which was attended by more than 600 key technology players from around the region, Intelliject was selected from a group of five finalists to receive the Qimonda Technology Innovation Award. Qimonda is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Infineon Technologies. Intelliject received the award for developing an auto-injector platform that can be utilized for the production of several therapeutic delivery devices. Their flagship product, the EpiCard, is a credit-card sized auto-injector used to deliver a dose of epinephrine, which is necessary to stabilize anyone having a severe allergic reaction. This therapy is often life-saving for allergic patients.

Accepting the award for the company was Spencer Williamson, president and CEO of Intelliject. “We are extremely excited about this award and the further validation it brings our technology,” commented Williamson.

The innovative aspect of Intelliject’s product lies in its design. The compact size of the EpiCard allows for storage in a wallet, pocket or purse. Another design innovation is the product’s retractable needle, which limits accidental injection. Finally, understanding that the individual using the device will likely be in a state of panic, the EpiCard has been designed for intuitive use.

“Having grown up with severe peanut allergies, we understand the importance of having this dose of epinephrine on hand in the event of an allergic attack,” commented Eric and Evan Edwards, vice presidents and co-founders of Intelliject. “We also understand that the bulky size of the current delivery devices are why seventy percent of people who need a life-saving epinephrine auto-injector, do not carry the device with them. We hope that by designing our device with the patient in mind, we can help decrease that percentage and save lives.”

Intelliject, LLC is located at the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park in downtown Richmond, Virginia.
