Ernst & Young speaks on the state of the biotech industry
According to industry experts, the biotechnology industry continues to grow and evolve. To evaluate the current trends, Rene Salas of Ernst & Young Life Sciences presented the 2005 U.S. Biotechnology Report, one of the local industry’s most anticipated reports, to entrepreneurs, scientists and industry affiliates who attended September’s “Brown Bag” luncheon. The luncheon, organized by the Virginia Biosciences Development Center, was sponsored Ernst & Young.
About VBDC
The VBDC, located at the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park, provides business assistance to start-up companies located in the park’s incubator facility. In less than three years, the VBDC has emerged as a major contributor to the growth of early stage life science technology businesses in the Richmond area. VBDC staff have counseled more than 23 start-ups and helped to launch eight of them. Since its inception, VBDC has secured cash and/or in-kind commitments, grants and contracts exceeding $750,000 for the benefit of growing the life sciences industry in the region.
