VBDC and client company nominated for
top Richmond award
RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Bioscience Development
Center announced today they, along with client company Castle
Technologies Inc., have been selected by the Greater Richmond
Technology Council as finalists for two of Greater Richmond’s
top awards.
The VBDC was chosen as a finalist for the Spanish Moss Holdings'
Community Support Award, which is given by the council to
honor a technology-based organization whose efforts — beyond
the normal course of business — have enhanced access
to and use of technology in the Greater Richmond area.
VBDC client company Castle Technologies was chosen as a finalist
for Infineon Technologies' Technology Innovation Award, which
is given to an organization that has developed or is implementing
technologies that hold significant promise.
The VBDC, located at the Virginia BioTechnology Research
Park, provides business assistance to start-up companies
located in the park’s incubator facility. In less than
three years, the VBDC has emerged as a major contributor
to the growth of early stage life science technology businesses
in the Richmond area. VBDC staff have counseled more than
23 start-ups and helped to launch eight of them. Since its
inception, VBDC has secured cash and/or in-kind commitments,
grants and contracts exceeding $750,000 for the benefit of
growing the life sciences industry in the region.
Castle Technologies, located in the park’s incubator
facility, focuses on development and implementation of enterprise-wide
health informatics applications in areas such as case management,
disease management and utilization management.
Winners will be announced May 11 at the council’s
tenth annual Technology Stars Awards Gala. The awards gala
is expected
to attract approximately 700 individuals, corporate and community
leaders, entrepreneurs and pioneers in the Greater Richmond
region.
