Park's newest tenant to market handheld ECG device

Richmond, VA – The Virginia BioTechnology Research Park recently welcomed its newest tenant, Trident International Corporation, which will market ReadMyHeartTM, a new handheld monitoring device that allows patients to play an active role in managing their cardiovascular health.

“With the close proximity of Virginia Commonwealth University’s medical center and the impressive cluster of bioscience companies, the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park was a perfect fit for Trident,” said Ron Gentry, COO of Trident International.

Trident International’s new product, ReadMyHeartTM, is a handheld system that records the user’s electrocardiogram in approximately 30 seconds. Patients simply place their thumbs on the device’s thumb pads and press a button to start tracing ECG signals. ReadMyHeartTM measures average heart rate, ST value (an indication of blood flow) and QRS interval (a measure of ventricular activity). The patient can then compare their readings to the normal ranges, which are listed on the device’s flip-up cover.

“ReadMyHeartTM can be a valuable tool for monitoring rhythm and conduction during normal daily activities, collecting and managing a useful databank of ECG recordings, or simply empowering patients to take a more active role in managing their disease,” said Gentry.

The ReadMyHeartTM software allows the user to transfer data files to a personal computer, which can then be printed or e-mailed to their physicians. This option helps patients at high risk of heart disease, such as patients with high cholesterol, hypertension, diabetes or patients starting a new medication, to play a more active role in their healthcare management.

“Trident International Corporation is a great representation of the innovation coming out of the park and a growing bioscience industry in the Greater Richmond area,” said Robert T. Skunda, president and CEO of the BioTech Park.

The company joins more than 50 other biosciences companies, research institutes affiliated with VCU, major state and national medical laboratories, and nonprofit organizations located at the Virginia BioTechnology Research Park.
