VBDC director announces plans for 2004 state
incubation conference
Richmond, VA – The theme of this year’s Virginia
Business Incubation Association’s annual meeting is
“Success in Changing Times,” to be held at the
Days Hotel & Conference Center in Herndon, Va., on Tuesday,
June 22, 2004, through Wednesday, June 23, 2004.
“VBIA promotes, encourages and supports the successful
establishment and operation of small business incubation programs
that stimulate economic development activity in Virginia,”
said David Lohr, executive director of the Virginia Biosciences
Development Center and president of the VBIA. “This
conference is designed for economic developers, service providers
and industry professionals interested in learning best practices
for operating an existing incubation program or creating a
new one.”
The conference will feature sessions on financing companies,
developing innovative partnerships and maintaining long-term
program viability. A highlight of the conference will be a
regional discussion panel consisting of incubator managers
from Virginia and Maryland discussing current issues and best
practices in incubation.
Barry J. Moltz, entrepreneur and author of “You Need
to be a Little Crazy: The Truth About Starting and Growing
Your Business,” will be the opening plenary keynote
speaker. Dr. Gary Evans, U.S. CEO and director of ANGLE Technology
Group, will be the luncheon keynote speaker addressing effective
evaluation tools for an incubator program.
Registration costs are $150 for members and $200 for nonmembers
before May 28, after which time there will be a $50 increase.
