Hemodyne chosen to present at Virginia’s Technology
Capital Access Forum
RICHMOND, Va. – Hemodyne,
Inc., announced today that is has been selected to present
at Virginia’s first annual Technology Capital Access
Forum (VTCAF), Nov. 12 – 13 at the Hotel Roanoke and
Conference Center in Roanoke, Va.
“We are pleased to have the opportunity to present
our company at the VTCAF,” says Devinder Bawa, president
and CEO of Hemodyne, which is headquartered at the Virginia
BioTechnology Research Park. “The capital markets have
been depressed since March 2001, so it’s especially
important to make this first VTCAF event a success. I see
these types of events as part of the market’s recovery.”
VTCAF offers up to 15 early- and mid-stage technology companies
the opportunity to present business plans to an audience of
venture capitalists and other financiers, as well as several
opportunities for informal interaction with serious investors.
The selection committee for the event received and chose among
more than 30 high-grade business plans.
“I was extremely impressed with the caliber of plans
submitted,” said Gryphon Capital Partners’ Greg
Feldmann, who chaired the selection committee. “The
choices were difficult. I am confident that the quality of
the selected companies matched with the $2 billion level of
venture capital represented at the Forum has great potential
for venture deals. This will be a pivotal event.”
Hemodyne,
founded by Virginia
Commonwealth University’s internationally recognized
hematologist Marcus E. Carr Jr., M.D., Ph.D., has launched
a rapid blood test that is unique in its ability to directly
assess platelet health. Hemodyne’s state-of-the-art
test, the Hemostasis Analysis System (HAS), offers critical
new information to enable physicians to better manage a variety
of drug therapies for heart patients and hemophiliacs, assess
and manage bleeding risk related to surgery, trauma and blood
disorders, and allow blood banks, for the first time, to economically
gauge platelet viability.
Virginia’s Technology Capital Access Forum is hosted
by Virginia Tech and the New Century Technology Council. The
event will kick off with the New Center Technology Council’s
Fall Gala and networking dinner, along with a technology showcase
from Virginia Tech. The second day will start with a venture
capital panel discussion including representatives from A.M.
Pappas & Associates, LLC, Greer Capital Advisors, Gryphon
Capital Partners, Harbert Venture Partners, Intersouth Partners
and SpaceVest. Company presentations will follow, and the
forum will conclude with a luncheon featuring Karen Kerr of
Arch Ventures.
