Living MicroSystems recognized by Southeastern Life Sciences
Group
Living MicroSystems, Inc. has been recognized as one of the
best life sciences investment opportunities in the Southeast
by the Southeastern Life Sciences Association and selected
to participate in its annual conference Nov. 10 – 11
in Pinehurst, N.C.
“We are honored to be recognized by the Southeastern
Life Sciences Association,” said Michael Grisham, president
and CEO of Living MicroSystems. “In addition to highlighting
investment opportunities, the conference will offer a review
of market and financing trends with nationally recognized
leaders from the investment and bioscience industries. It’s
a good representation of the opportunities available for early-stage
life sciences companies in the region.”
Living MicroSystems, which is headquartered at the Virginia
BioTechnology Research Park, will join 11 other companies
from Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida and
Tennessee for an Early-Stage Program focused on start-up biotech
companies. The companies will participate in one-on-one meetings
and group seminars with an advisory panel of business and
venture fund mentors.
“Living MicroSystems is a great representation of the
innovation that is coming out of the Greater Richmond area,”
said Park President and CEO Robert T. Skunda. “Today,
the Southeast is recognized as one of the fastest-growing
life sciences regions in the United States.”
Living MicroSystems is developing non-invasive, prenatal screening
and diagnostic tests to provide pregnant women, their physicians
and their genetic counselors with accurate and comprehensive
information in the first trimester of pregnancy. The company
hopes its products one day will replace blood tests and significantly
reduce the need for amniocentesis, in which a small amount
of fluid is drawn from the uterus and then examined to detect
genetic abnormalities in the fetus.
The Southeastern Life Sciences Association is a public/private
partnership formed in 1999 to promote the growth of the life
sciences economy in the Southeast.
