Governor's School for Medicine and Life Sciences visits the Park

High school students involved in this year's Virginia Governor's School for Medicine and Life Sciences visited the Virginia BioTechnology Park this week. The students heard from Robert T. Skunda, president and CEO of the Park; worked with molecular modeling programs in the Virginia Commonwealth University Institute of Structural Biology and Drug Discovery and toured the headquarters of the United Network of Organ Sharing. The Virginia Governor's School for Medicine and Life Sciences is a four-week summer program sponsored by the state Department of Education at VCU. The program enrolls 30 of the top 11th and 12th graders from around the state who are interested in perusing careers in the life sciences. During morning sessions, the students hear lectures from top scientists in the fields of genetics, forensics, neonatology and bioinformatics. In the afternoon, the students participate in clinical and research experiences.
