THE INNOVATION COUNCIL RELEASES FIRST METRICS REPORT

-Inaugural Report Will Provide Measures to Drive Activity for Increased Innovation and Entrepreneurship in the Richmond Region-

RICHMOND The Innovation Council today released its first ever metrics report to help drive the activity needed to solidify the Richmond region as a hub for advanced-technology companies.  The baseline report will be updated annually and provide a picture of the innovation ecosystem in the Richmond region.  In the report, metrics are broken down into two areas: moving the needle in opportunities where the stakeholders in the ecosystem can have a direct impact; and the innovation landscape of all the necessary components for a strong, sustainable knowledge-based ecosystem.

Speaking about the report, Carrie Roth, President & CEO of The Innovation Council of the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park and member of The Innovation Council, said, “With the goal of promoting innovative activity and growth sectors through infrastructure for entrepreneurial, innovation and commercialization success, this report will help drive the activity needed to solidify the Richmond region as a hub for knowledge-based startups, entrepreneurs and all things innovative.”

In June 2015, the Board of Directors of the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park Corporation adopted bylaw changes to transition into The Innovation Council to support collaboration and coordination of high-growth innovation activities in the Richmond region.  The overarching goal is to support efforts to make the Richmond region a place where individuals want to start companies, grow their companies, attract talent to the region and keep talent in the region.

Dr. Rao, President of VCU and Chairman of The Innovation Council stated, “The Innovation Council is the forum for collaboration and coordinated innovation activities amongst stakeholders in the Richmond region.  The Council’s role is to set goals and metrics for innovation, monitoring progress toward these goals and lead efforts to identify and fill the gaps necessary to sustain a successful innovation ecosystem.  This inaugural metrics report serves as a baseline in measuring the success of the Richmond region and components of our ecosystem using information provided by our Virginia Biotechnology Research Park and affiliated companies, Council partners and publicly available information.”
